WHAT'S LURKING IN YOUR BOTTLED WATER? GET A KANGEN WATER IONIZER AND AVOID BOTTLED WATER.

WHAT'S LURKING IN YOUR BOTTLED WATER?

GET A KANGEN WATER IONIZER AND AVOID BOTTLED WATER.

The truth is painful. A gallon of water costs more than a gallon of gas, even at our inflated gas prices. Most people pay the extra money because they think that it is healthier and cleaner than tap water. Is bottled water a clean, healthy water to drink?

No, usually not!

For starters, did you know that 90% of bottled waters are reverse osmosis water, which means the water contains no minerals, so it can leach the minerals out of your bones and tissue? Did you know that? Reverse osmosis water is also highly acidic, ranging from a pH of 5.5 to 6.4 pH. The lack of minerals makes the water able to leach the minerals from your tissues, and the high acidity of the water further compounds the leaching affect.

And, did you know that the water also leaches the plastic from the bottle? This includes leaching plastic from the clear hard crispy type plastics as well. Though these bottles have been deemed safe traditionally, it isn’t so.

Recently, German researchers have found that bottles of water that sit on a store shelf or in a household pantry for long periods of time contain high doses of antimony*. Amounts of this potentially toxic trace element were measured in 15 brands of Canadian bottled water and 48 European brands. Concentrations reached more than 100 times the average level of antimony in pristine groundwater (2 parts per trillion).

What is Antimony?

Antimony is a regulated contaminant that poses both acute and chronic health effects in drinking water. Previous reports suggest that polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics used for water bottles in Europe and Canada leach antimony, but no studies on bottled water in the United States have previously been conducted. Nine commercially available bottled waters in the southwestern US (Arizona) were purchased and tested for antimony concentrations as well as for potential antimony release by the plastics that compose the bottles. The southwestern US was chosen for the study because of its high consumption of bottled water and elevated temperatures, which could increase antimony leaching from PET plastics.

However, when the bottles were left to sit at room temperature for six months, the concentration of antimony was found to be even higher. Antimony concentrations in the Canadian bottled waters increased by 19 percent, concentrations in the European brands increased by 90 percent.

Most of the water tested was packaged in bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Antimony trioxide is used as a catalyst in the manufacture of PET. The different concentrations of antimony in the various brands might have been caused by differing temperatures, water pHs, or exposure to sunlight. Here is the USA Today article on the study http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-03-09-1407366964_x.htm

The PET bottle (polyethylene terephthalate) is an environmentally unfriendly substance. In order to create 1 kilogram of PET, 17.5 kilograms of water are required. In fact, more water is used to make PET bottles than is actually put into them. The production of the plastic also produces numerous byproducts that are extremely harmful to the environment.

The Container Recycling Institute reported that 14 billion water bottles were sold in the U.S. in 2002, yet only 10 percent of these bottles were recycled - 90 percent ended up in the trash. That's an extra 12.6 billion plastic bottles for the landfills; bottles that contained water that was no more - and often less - healthy than tap water.

We Americans throw away 38 billion water bottles a year into landfills -- in excess of $1 billion worth of plastic, and 24% of the bottled water we buy is tap water repackaged by Coca-Cola and PepsiCo. (Bottled water: A river of money). There is a perception that bottled water is somehow healthier or purer than tap water. This is simply an illusion of marketing.

What's lurking in your water? Lots of unhealthy, unpleasant stuff that may be contributing to the overall low health quality of the US. The US ranks over 40th in all of the countries around the world for health and longevity. Japan is number 1. What are we doing wrong... and what are they doing right?

Good points you share. Think everyone knows you are sharing the truth about our city water. Will check out your site.Emma Bowens

The real answer is investing in your own family's health by getting a kangen water ionizer. Less than 1% of the municipal water is drinkable. 99% of the water is used for municipal needs like industrial, parks, fire hydrants, car washes, etc.. This is why they leave the chlorine, fluoride, benzene etc in the city water. It's not cost effective. Get a Kangen water ionizer to protect your family's water supply & benefit from kangen water's health benefits.Dean Corbitt
