Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy the Future of Anti Aging?

Anti-aging, or as some call it, reverse aging, is the gift of extended life. It has been an obsession for certain famous individuals throughout the centuries to try and prolong life. From Walt Disney to Michael Jackson, those with money were able to pay for scientists and researchers to attempt to push the boundaries of science and slow aging. Now as technology has advanced ever further, there has been an enormous amount of research and new studies exploring ways to increase the human life span. In particular, the goal is to increase the life expectancy of individuals, but in a way that prolongs a healthy life.

One process that has been causing a particular interest in the last few decades is Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy or HBOT. From treating decompression sickness in scuba divers, skin rejuvenation and brain rehabilitation, we explore the ins and outs of Hyperbolic Oxygen Therapy and oxygen therapy benefits below, and its use in the field of future anti ageing efforts.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

The process of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is essentially the breathing of pure oxygen in a small pressurized chamber or room. The individual receiving treatment is usually sat or laid down, depending on the size of the chamber and their medical state, where they will remain for up to a maximum of 5 hours. During oxygen chamber therapy, a chamber will usually accommodate one person, however, a room could allow treatment for more depending on its size.

Are there any dangers?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is only generally considered seriously dangerous if an individual spends too much time within the chamber, breathing pure oxygen. It causes oxygen toxicity which can cause cell damage and other negative outcomes.

Oxygen therapy benefits

This type of therapy is already providing benefits to a wide range of individuals. It is already being used in the medical industry to aid in the following conditions:

• Decompression sickness in scuba divers

• Carbon monoxide poisoning

• Radiation burns and injury

• Sudden deafness or blindness from server injury

• Infections of the skin or bone that cause tissue death

And many more

How does it create a slow aging effect?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is believed to combat the process of degeneration in cells and tissues and slow aging. It promotes the regeneration of tissue and blood vessels. It has the possibility to slow down the effects of many degenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, immune-related degeneration, and arthritis. As each of the illnesses usually affect the older generation, the idea is that using oxygen therapy will slow down the development and advancement of these diseases, prolonging a healthier and happier life for many people.

Is it really the future of anti aging?

To conclude, there is a wealth of promising knowledge and evidence being drawn from the scientific community on the future of oxygen chamber therapy. It is generally considered a very effective treatment, so only time will tell how its availability may change to allow the general public to begin using this as a more common treatment.
